PM Modi calls for rules-based world order in ASEAN post-Covid

Developing a rules-based world order after the COVID-19 pandemic and everyone’s effort (Sabka Prayas) for human welfare will be mutually beneficial to all of us. Despite an environment of global uncertainty, there has been steady progress in “our mutual cooperation”.

Jakarta. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday called for building a rules-based world order after the COVID-19 pandemic and strengthening the voice of the ‘Global South’. In his address at the annual ASEAN-India Summit here, the Prime Minister also underlined the need to ensure a free and open Indo-Pacific region. The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is considered one of the most influential groupings in the region.

Many other countries including India, USA, China, Japan and Australia are its dialogue partners. Modi told the leaders of the grouping that India supports ASEAN’s vision on the Indo-Pacific. The Prime Minister described ASEAN as the center of development and said that it plays an important role in global development. He said, “The 21st century is the century of Asia, it is the century of all of us.”

Modi said, “Evolving a rules-based world order after the Kovid-19 pandemic and everyone’s effort (everyone’s effort) for human welfare will be mutually beneficial to all of us.” Despite the climate, there has been steady progress in “our mutual cooperation”. He said that ASEAN is the central pillar of India’s ‘Act East’ policy. The Prime Minister also said that the ASEAN-India partnership has entered its fourth decade. He said that ASEAN occupies a central place in India’s Indo-Pacific initiative.
