The consecration of the temple was completed on Wednesday before the inauguration program of PM Modi. Built on 27 acres of land, it will be the first Hindu stone temple in Abu Dhabi with a unique blend of Indian culture and United Arab Emirates (UAE) identity. The centerpiece of his brief two-day visit to the Gulf country is the inauguration of the BAPS Temple, the second large Hindu temple to be inaugurated in the UAE. The Dubai temple was inaugurated in October 2022 by HH Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance of the UAE. Prime Minister Modi will also lead the dedication ceremony of the temple which will be opened to the public on March 1.
The temple is built on 27 acres of land donated by the UAE government in Abu Murikha near Al Rahba near the Dubai-Abu Dhabi Sheikh Zayed Highway. The foundation stone laying ceremony took place in 2019. The massive structure houses a prayer hall with a capacity to hold 3,000 people, a community centre; An exhibition hall, a library and a children’s park. The façade of the temple has beautiful marble carvings on a pink sandstone background, carved from over 25,000 stone pieces by skilled artisans from Rajasthan and Gujarat. Pink sandstone was transported from Rajasthan.
