Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a telephonic conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin today. Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday told Prime Minister Narendra Modi that he would not be able to visit India to attend the G20 summit in New Delhi. Putin said Russia would be represented by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at the summit to be held on September 9 and 10. The two leaders reviewed progress on a number of issues of bilateral cooperation and exchanged views on global issues, including the recently concluded BRICS Summit in Johannesburg.

The talks between the two top leaders followed reports last week that indicated the Russian president would not personally attend the G20 summit in New Delhi in September, and the Kremlin announced on Friday that He has a busy schedule and the main focus is still on the special military operation in Ukraine.
The G20 world leaders’ summit is scheduled to be held in New Delhi on 9 and 10 September. The summit is expected to be one of the largest gathering of world leaders in India. India took over the chairmanship of G20 from Indonesia on December 1, 2022. Russia launched a special military operation against Ukraine on February 24, 2022. India has been insisting on resolving the Ukraine dispute through dialogue and diplomacy.
