Poland seeks clarification from Russia after missile hits its airspace
[ad_1]
Poland demanded an explanation from Moscow on Sunday after a Russian missile entered Polish airspace during an airstrike on Ukraine. This was the third biggest attack by Russia on Ukraine in the last four days, in which the capital Kiev was targeted for the second time.
Lviv region governor Maksim Kozitsky said on Telegram that critical infrastructure had been damaged. However, he did not say what kind of damage was actually caused.
There is no news of any death or injury in this incident. Kiev’s army chief Serhiy Popko said Russia fired the missile from a Tu-95MS bomber.
North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) member Poland’s Armed Forces Operation Command said in a statement that one of the cruise missiles fired targeting the western city of Ukraine entered Polish airspace at 4:23 am. It took off and remained in the airspace for 39 seconds.
Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz later told a news conference that if there had been any indication that the missile was being fired by Russia targeting Poland, it would have been shot down in the air.
On the diplomatic front, Poland’s Foreign Ministry said it would “demand explanations from Russia regarding yet another violation of the country’s airspace.”
