Paris Police in Paris baton-charged and used teargas and stun grenades to disperse a large crowd of protesters angry over controversial pension reform.
Thousands of people marched in the French capital on the 11th day of protests against the government’s plan to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64, according to the CGT trade union. Police put the number of protesters at over 57,000. A large number of protesters gathered at the Place d’Italie square in central Paris as dusk fell. During this violence broke out after some people set gas canisters on fire and the police swung into action. With the call for demonstration on 13th April, the dharna ended at around 7 pm.
French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said police arrested 111 protesters and injured 154 officers in clashes during the nationwide strike. At the same time, BFMTV said in its report that the police detained 45 people in Paris and 77 officers were injured.
