The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)-led coalition government could have stayed in power for two more days and wanted to dissolve parliament on August 11, but believes that former leader of jailed ex-prime minister Imran’s party President Alvi may refuse to immediately issue a notification to dissolve the lower house. Prime Minister Shehbaz late on Wednesday night sent a letter to President Alvi to dissolve the National Assembly, which would formally begin the process of appointing a caretaker prime minister, Geo News reported.
Three days before the term of the Lower House of the Parliament ends, Prime Minister Shahbaz has sent an advice to President Alvi to dissolve it. President Alvi can either immediately issue a notification to dissolve the National Assembly or delay it by 48 hours. In case of premature dissolution of the National Assembly, the Election Commission of Pakistan will conduct elections within 90 days. Had the National Assembly completed its constitutional term, elections would have been held within 60 days.
