Washington. The Ram Mandir Rath Yatra in the US will begin from Chicago on Monday and will visit 851 temples in 48 states covering a distance of more than 8,000 miles in the next 60 days. The organizers gave this information on Thursday. Amitabh Mittal, General Secretary of ‘Vishwa Hindu Parishad of America’ (VHPA), the organizing organization of the Rath Yatra, said that the chariot built on a Toyota Sienna van along with the idols of Lord Ram, Goddess Sita, Laxman and Hanuman were brought from the Ram temple of Ayodhya. There will also be special prasad and intact urn worshiped for consecration.
Mittal said, “The inauguration of the Ram temple has filled the hearts of more than 1.5 billion Hindus around the world with joy and has infused in them a new energy and faith. This nationwide Rath Yatra will start from Chicago, USA on March 25 and will cover a distance of more than 8,000 miles. This Yatra will visit 851 temples in America and about 150 temples in Canada.” Rath Yatra in Canada is being organized by ‘Vishwa Hindu Parishad of Canada’.
Tejal Shah of Hindu Temple Empowerment Council (HMEC), the apex body of all temples in America, said, “The purpose of this Rath Yatra is to increase awareness among people about Hindu religion, educate them and empower them.” That this Yatra will provide an opportunity for all Hindus to unite and participate and will lead to the revival of Hindu ethos and religion.
Mittal said many volunteers have registered with VHPA to help plan and organize the trip. He said that this is the first time in America that such a yatra has been organized by the Hindu community under which a chariot-shaped van will be taken to more than 800 temples in America. The Yatra will culminate in Sugar Grove, Illinois on April 23, the day of Shri Hanuman Jayanti.
