External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has arrived in London on a five-day visit to Britain with the aim of reviewing various aspects of bilateral relations and giving “new impetus to friendly relations”. The Foreign Minister posted on the social media platform ‘X’ on Sunday, “Heartiest greetings to all the countrymen on the auspicious occasion of Diwali. During his stay in Britain, Jaishankar is likely to attend an event at Lord’s cricket ground and on Monday he is likely to address the Diwali reception hosted by the Indian High Commission in London. He is expected to join a discussion on ‘How one billion people see the world’ next week. Jaishankar will hold talks with his British counterpart James Cleverly. It is expected that in this conversation, preparations regarding the possible visit of British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to India in the next few months will be discussed. Earlier, the Indian External Affairs Ministry had said, “Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar will be on an official visit to Britain from 11 to 15 November.”
The statement issued by the ministry said, “Bilateral relations between India and Britain are growing. During this visit, the Foreign Minister will meet his British counterpart Sir James Cleverly and other dignitaries. The Ministry of External Affairs described the relations between the two countries as cordial and progressive. The India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership was launched in 2021 with the signing of the India-UK Action Plan 2030, which aims to expand relations across a range of sectors. The Ministry of External Affairs had said, “The action plan makes a commitment to a partnership that will prove beneficial for both the countries.” The visit of the Foreign Minister will give new momentum to the friendly relations between the two countries.
