Male . The second group of Indian military personnel deployed to operate aircraft gifted by India to Maldives has departed from the island nation as per the demand of President Mohammed Muizzu. This information was given in a media report on Sunday. According to the news portal ‘Adhaadhu.com’, the second group of Indian military personnel who left from Maldives on April 9 included Indian soldiers who were operating Dornier aircraft. It was initially believed that Indian military personnel departing from the island nation were operating a helicopter.
The departure of the second group of Indian soldiers was first announced by President Muizzu during an election campaign event on Friday. Muijju, who is considered a China supporter, had said, “The first team has already left.” Now, on April 9, troops have also been removed from the other platform.” The news portal quoted a source as saying, ”Adhadhu has confirmed from a reliable source that the group that left on April 9 was eligible for Dornier flights. Indian soldiers deployed at Dhal Hanimadhu were involved. Civilian or technical personnel brought in their place have reached Hanimadhu.
The Maldives government has not given any official information on the recent departure of Indian military personnel from the country. Muizzu had set March 10 as the deadline for the return of the first group of Indian military personnel from the country. Under the agreement signed between Maldives and India in February, New Delhi had agreed to deploy Indian-trained civilians to replace Indian military personnel deployed in the Maldives to oversee the operation of military aircraft gifted by the country.
Muizzu said, “There is only one platform left. As both the countries have already signed, they (rest of the Indian military personnel) will also be withdrawn before May 10. They will leave.” According to the Maldivian government, 88 Indian soldiers were deployed in the Maldives to operate one helicopter and one Dornier aircraft. The first group of Indian troops left Maldives on 11 March.
