shehbaz sharif disqualification petition

Nawaz Sharif is continuously traveling to Europe and Gulf countries.
The petitioner said that the Lahore High Court had accepted Shehbaz Sharif’s affidavit and allowed Nawaz Sharif (73) to go abroad for four weeks for medical treatment. The petition alleged that Nawaz Sharif has been traveling to Europe and Gulf countries since November 2019, but is not returning to Pakistan as per Shehbaz Sharif’s affidavit. Moreover, it appears that Nawaz Sharif used the excuse of his illness to get relief from the court.
The petitioner urged the court that 71-year-old Shehbaz Sharif should be disqualified under the provisions of Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution. Assistant Attorney General Shiraz Zaka objected to the writ petition, saying the petitioner was not an aggrieved person in the matter. He said that former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was allowed to go abroad by the then federal government (the government of Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party).
He argued that if the petitioner feels that an offense has been committed, he has the option of approaching the appropriate forum. He told the court that the petition was not maintainable and should be dismissed. After this, the Lahore High Court adjourned the hearing indefinitely. Nawaz Sharif, three-time prime minister of Pakistan, was serving a seven-year jail term in Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail. In November 2019, the Lahore High Court allowed him to go abroad for treatment.
