Washington, December 29 (HS). Former US President Donald Trump’s hopes have again suffered a major setback. Regarding Trump, who is dreaming of becoming President again, the top election official of the American state of Maine has ruled that he cannot participate in the presidential elections to be held in 2024.
Maine State Secretary of State Shenae Lee Bellows has given this decision regarding Trump’s role in the 2021 Capitol Hill riot. Bellows wrote in a 34-page decision that the US Constitution does not tolerate an attack on the foundation of our government. It concludes that Trump incited an insurrection by falsely claiming the 2020 presidential election was contested and calling on his supporters to march on the US Capitol. After this decision, Trump cannot participate in the primary elections to be held in the American state of Maine to become the presidential candidate from the Republican Party.
Maine is the second state that has banned Trump from participating in the election. Before this, another US state Colorado has also given such an order. Colorado’s top court on December 19 disqualified Trump from the state’s primary ballot. Trump filed an appeal against this decision in the US Supreme Court, calling his disqualification undemocratic.
