Seoul: South Korea has increased its stockpile of weapons. It has tested a new type of ballistic missile for new warheads equipped with weapons. This step is being considered as a response to the challenges from North Korea. But according to defense experts, South Korea’s move is related to techno-nationalism and hiding its nuclear ambitions rather than improving its security against the North. A report this month by Defense Post confirmed that South Korea had successfully test-fired the Hyunmoo-V ballistic missile earlier this year.

Production will start this year
According to the report, South Korea is planning to start mass production of Hyunmoo-V this year. It aims to produce 70 missiles and 200 units per year. This missile will be fitted on the Joint Strike Ship being built by Hanwa Oshin. The report states that the Hyunmu-V is the latest in South Korea’s Hyunmu ballistic missile series. It has a maximum range of 3,000 km and can carry eight tonnes of ammunition. The missile can easily target the enemy’s underground command center and other places. The speed of the missile is up to Mach 10 i.e. 12348 kilometers per hour.

missile power
The Hyunmu V missile is equipped with earthquake power. This means that this missile can also collapse tunnels through artificial earthquake. A model of South Korea’s Joint Strike Ship was unveiled last month at MADEX, an event in Busan. This South Korean warship is based on the KDDX class destroyer. South Korea has set a target of fitting more than 100 missiles in it. It has been told by Naval News that while conventional warships are often slow, large and vulnerable targets, joint strike ships can be equipped with heavy defensive weapons.

South Korea’s new warship
The new South Korean warship is fitted with two LIG Nex1 Close-in Weapon System-II (CIWS-II) and 48 KVLS-I units armed with medium-range K-SAAM surface-to-air (SAM) missiles. KDDX has been installed in the Joint Strike Ship for detection and fire control. At the same time, an integrated I-MAST Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar is also fitted in it. Two MASS Chaff Decoy Launchers and two Anti-Torpedo Decoy Launchers are also installed to protect the ship from missile attacks. The ship has 15 missile tubes for ballistic missiles believed to be Hyunmu-IV-2. This is the surface ship version of the Hyunmoo-IV.
