Monaco’s top leader Albert Alexandre Louis Pierre Grimaldi is a longtime friend of Chinese President Xi Jinping. The two leaders met several times. Five years ago, on March 24, 2019, Xi Jinping visited Monaco, becoming the first Chinese supreme leader to visit Monaco. Albert II said that it was a matter of great pleasure for him. This is the first visit of a head of state of a big country and a strong country in the world to Monaco.

There are many areas of common concern between Xi Jinping and Albert II. The two leaders had together attended the opening ceremonies of the Sochi Winter Olympics, Nanjing Youth Olympic Games and Beijing Winter Olympics. Albert II said that Xi Jinping fully understands the importance of sports. Because he not only supported Beijing to organize the Winter Olympics, but also encouraged all Chinese people to participate in sports.
