Surat: Implementation of BIS certificate on polyester yarn product postponed by three months.  Loktej Business, Regional News

The deadline for implementation of the quality control order and mandatory BIS certification, to be applicable from April 3, 2023, on five products involving polyester yarn, has been extended by three months. Now this order will be applicable from July 3, 2023 due to which the industrialists have heaved a sigh of relief. Now they will get full time to get the certificate.

The Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) President Himanshu Bodawala and former Chamber President Ashish Gujrathi, Chamber Deputy Secretary (Representation) Paulik Desai, Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry representative Gaurang Bhagat and other textile industry representatives. Under the aegis of FIASVI President Bharat Gandhi had a face-to-face meeting with Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare and Chemicals and Fertilizers, India on 13 March 2023 in New Delhi. During the meeting, a presentation was made to extend the timeline for implementation of the Quality Control Order and mandatory BIS certification to be implemented from April 3, 2023, on five polyester yarn related products in the textile sector.

Chamber of Commerce President Himanshu Bodawala said that the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India had issued a quality control order on five products related to polyester yarn in the textile sector. It was to be implemented from 3 April 2023. If the quality control order were to be implemented after two days i.e. from April 3, 2023, the textile manufacturers and traders would not be able to manufacture, sell, import and export and store polyester yarn without BIS certificate. Had such a situation been created, it would have had a massive impact on trade and industry.

Meanwhile, a notification in this regard has been issued late last evening by the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India. As mentioned, the quality control order in the textile sector and the implementation of mandatory BIS certification on polyester yarn has been extended by three months. Therefore, the quality control order and mandatory BIS certificate which were to be implemented from 3 April 2023, will now be applicable from the next date 3 July 2023.

Textile industrialists and traders have heaved a sigh of relief after the decision taken by the Government of India. Now they can complete the process of obtaining BIS certificate within three months.
