He said Palmiter had purchased the guns in April and June this year following all legal procedures. After killing three people, he also shot himself. According to Waters, Palmer had been released from a mental health facility after treatment, which is why his background check prior to granting him a gun license failed to reveal his mental illness.
Waters identified those killed in Saturday’s shooting as Dollar General Angela Mitchell Carr, 52, store employee AJ Laguerre, 19, and shopper Gerald Gallion, 29. According to the sheriff, Palmer lived with his parents in nearby Clay County. He had sent a message to his father during the shootout asking him to go to his room. Waters said Palmer’s father had found a suicide note in her room, which was extremely racist. Hundreds of people offered prayers in churches on Sunday following the incident.
