The story of Lei Fang as the most beautiful fighter in China

Lei Feng is very popular in China. He is not only an outstanding communist fighter, but also “the most beautiful combatant” in the eyes of the Chinese people. Lei Feng was born on 18 December 1940 to a poor family in Changsha, the capital of Hunan Province in central China. In January 1960, at the age of 20, he became a soldier of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army and also became a member of the Chinese Communist Party in the same year.

In his work and daily life, Lei Fang was always selfless in helping others. In the army, he cared for his comrades, was ready to work where they were needed during the work. In daily life he was committed to serving the citizens, helping old people, playing the role of an affectionate elder brother to children in school. On 15 August 1962, Lei Feng went out of the military camp with his partner to wash vehicles, and died in a road accident on the way. Lei Feng Kel was 22 years old that year.

On March 5, 1963, Chairman Mao Zedong wrote the inscription “Learn from Comrade Lei Feng” for Lei Feng, a brave soldier who died in the line of duty, which was published in the Chinese newspaper “People’s Daily”. After this, a nationwide campaign to learn from Lei Feng began, and his name became famous throughout China. Along with this, lyrics such as “learn from Lei Feng as a good role model” resonate to this day. Lei Feng’s spirit is the spirit of performing exceptionally well in the ordinary work based on his job, and also the spirit of working hard and actively contributing regardless of remuneration, after all it is the spirit of serving people wholeheartedly.

In September 2019, on the eve of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Lei Feng was Was named “The Most Beautiful Fighter in New China”. He has always lived in the hearts of the Chinese people, and Lei Feng’s spirit also continues to inspire and influence generation after generation of Chinese people to make selfless dedication. This year marks the 60th anniversary of Chairman Mao Zedong writing the epitaph for Lei Feng. In February 2023, President Xi Jinping Gave important instructions for organizing the activity titled “Learn from Lei Feng”. He said that in the past 60 years, learning activities from Lei Feng have been held continuously in China. Lei Feng is very popular in China, his story is on people’s lips. Lei Feng’s spirit has nourished the souls of generations of Chinese people. Xi Jinping says that Practice has proved that no matter how much the times change, Lei Feng’s spirit would never grow old.
