Washington (Uttam Hindu News): Former US President Donald Trump has canceled three of the four rallies scheduled this week due to the major winter storm. There has been heavy snowfall in large parts of the country.
Trump has canceled two rallies scheduled for Saturday in Sioux City and Atlantic and will only attend a tele-rally with Iowa Attorney General Brenna Byrd in the evening, CNN reports.
The former president is still scheduled to hold an in-person rally in Indianola on Sunday.
His campaign also canceled a second rally scheduled to be held in Cherokee and will instead hold a tele-rally with Iowa State Representative Bobby Coffman.
After the cancellation was announced, Trump speculated that the weather in Iowa, where the 2024 election cycle begins on January 15, could be good for his campaign ahead of the upcoming caucuses, CNN reported.
The former President said that he would reach there on or around Saturday night.
He said, “I will meet you on Sunday and Monday and maybe late Saturday night. It’s going to be a short trek. No one knows exactly how we’ll get there, but we’re going to find out and there’s no way we’ll miss it.”
“There has been record snowfall, everything has been record, but we will not miss it,” he said.
Due to the Arctic blast, the National Weather Service has issued alerts for almost every province, the BBC reports. Snow is forecast for Saturday from as far west as Oregon to as far east as Maine.
Alerts have been issued for more than seven crore people.
In some areas the temperature is expected to drop to minus 45 degrees Celsius.
Forecasters have called it “deadly winter weather.”
