The central government on Saturday took exception to the recent visit of the British envoy in Islamabad to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Britain’s High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott visited Mirpur on January 10. A statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs said that Marriott’s visit was highly objectionable and an act that was a violation of India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The ministry’s statement said that Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra has lodged a strong protest with the British High Commissioner in India over this violation. Following her visit to the area, Jane Marriott had shared photos on Instagram and said that 70 per cent of British Pakistanis have roots in Mirpur.
