Washington. Two of the 17 Sikhs from two rival gangs arrested in California over the weekend face murder charges in India, while two others are wanted on other criminal counts. According to a spokesperson for the California Attorney General, Pavitra Singh and Hussaindeep Singh are facing murder charges in India. His citizenship has not been disclosed yet, but it is believed that he is still an Indian citizen and his application for asylum in the US is pending. Local and federal law enforcement agencies arrested 17 Sikh men from various cities in Northern California in multiple raids.
Most of them were from the historic ‘Young City’ and its surroundings. These people belong to two rival Sikh gangs. The names of these gangs are ‘Minta Group’ and ‘AK47 Group’. Both the gangs have at least 30-30 members. Law enforcement agencies were also taken by surprise when several dangerous firearms were recovered from them. “41 firearms were seized during the operation, including AR15s, AK-47s, handguns and at least one machine gun,” said Sutter County District Attorney Jennifer Dupre.
Two of those arrested in San Joaquin County, Dharamveer Singh alias Minta and Jobanjit Singh, were stopped on their way to Manteca. They were reportedly about to launch a major attack in Manteca armed with pistols, magazines and fully automatic weapons. Dupre reported that law enforcement managed to stop two vehicles before they arrived at a Sikh parade in Sacramento over the weekend. Dupre told PTI that the reaction of the community after the arrest of the two gang members is “very positive” and lauded the law enforcement agencies for preventing the mass shooting.
