London (Best Hindu News): The British High Commission is offering young Indian girls a chance to spend a day as one of the UK’s top diplomats on October 11, the International Day of the Girl Child.

The British High Commission in New Delhi on Friday announced that the annual ‘High Commissioner for a Day’ competition focusing on the Sustainable Development Goals will provide an opportunity for Indian women aged 18 to 23 to share their strengths with the world.

British High Commissioner to India Alex Ellis said, “The Sustainable Development Goals emphasize building a better planet for everyone, everywhere; As India is doing with its G20 Presidency. I am always in awe of the talent spread across this country and have no doubt that India’s talented youth will lead this drive and lead a better future.”

Ellis said in a statement that the full potential of the world’s youth to solve the world’s biggest challenges cannot be achieved without girls and women.

He further said, “International Day of the Girl Child is an important moment. I look forward to seeing many great entries.”

To apply, participants must record and upload a one-minute video titled ‘How young people can help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)?’ will be the answer.

The video has to be shared on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or LinkedIn by tagging @therateukinindia and using the hashtag #HazardOfTheGirl.

Only one entry per participant can be submitted by filling up the online form available on the High Commission website by 18th August.

The High Commission also announced that videos exceeding the time limit and videos containing plagiarized content would be disqualified immediately.

A jury from the British High Commission will then select the winner, who will be announced at the rate on UKINIndia social media channels.

The High Commissioner will be in Delhi in person for the one-day event, and if the winner is not from Delhi/NCR, financial assistance will be given to travel to Delhi as part of the competition, the High Commission said.

Significantly, the British High Commission has been organizing the ‘High Commissioner for a Day’ competition every year since 2017.

The winner of last year’s competition was 20-year-old Jagruti Yadav from Lucknow.

He met Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Culture Meenakshi Lekhi, West Yorkshire Mayor Tracey Brabin and Wipro Executive Chairman Rishad Premji.

Jagruti also launched a book honoring 75 Indian women in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) with Professor Ajay Kumar Sood, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India.
