In a major development, the District and Sessions Court on Saturday convicted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan in the Toshakhana case and sentenced him to three years in jail. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 100,000 on the PTI chief. Along with this, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan has been disqualified for 5 years. That means Imran Khan will not be able to contest elections for five years. An arrest warrant has also been issued against Imran Khan.
Imran Khan’s workers used to reach his residence in large numbers during the court case. At present, no such picture has come to the fore. It is being expected that when the Islamabad police will reach Lahore with the arrest warrant against Imran, there may be a clash between the PTI supporters and the police. The strictness with which action was taken against the workers of Tehreek-e-Insaf party after the incidents of 9th May. Cases were registered, houses were raided. His party PTI said in a statement that it is absolutely shameful and disgusting how the law is being mocked as there is a desire to disqualify and jail Imran Khan. During the hearing today, Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) Humayun Dilawar ruled that the allegations against the former prime minister in the case were proved. Imran Khan submitted fake details to the Election Commission of Pakistan and has been found guilty of corrupt practices. Khan is accused of abusing his premiership from 2018 to 2022 to buy and sell state-owned gifts, received during foreign trips, worth more than 140 million rupees (US$635,000).
