The Pakistan Army’s propaganda wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) issued a statement saying that General Sir Sanders met General Munir at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi. On arrival at GHQ, the CGS UK Army laid a wreath at the Yaadgar-e-Shuhada (Martyrs’ Memorial). A contingent of the Pakistan Army presented a guard of honor to its special guest, British Army Chief General Sir Patrick Sanders. Regional security issues and matters of mutual interest were discussed during the meeting.
The ISPR said that the sacrifices and achievements of the Pakistan Army in the fight against terrorism and efforts to bring peace and stability in the region were acknowledged by the visiting General Sir Sanders. The statement said that General Sir Sanders also called on General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, at the Joint Staff Headquarters in Rawalpindi today. The British Army Chief arrived in Pakistan on Monday on a five-day visit.
The ISPR, in a statement issued earlier this week, had said that General Sir Sanders’ visit comes almost a year after Pakistan’s devastating floods. About one-third of Pakistan was submerged in this flood. Pakistan estimates that 33 million people were affected by this flood. The UK Ministry of Defense was directly involved in providing assistance for flood relief operations, providing eight boats and 10 portable generators at the request of Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, the statement said.
