United Nations (Best Hindu News): The leaders of the Security Council and the United Nations have condemned the suicide blast at Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) activists’ conference in Pakistan and called for action against terrorism. 54 people lost their lives in the incident.
In a show of unity, the polarized council issued a press statement on Monday condemning in the strongest terms Sunday’s “heinous and cowardly suicide terrorist attack” in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bajaur.
“The members of the Security Council underscored the need to hold accountable and bring to justice the perpetrators, organisers, financiers and sponsors of these reprehensible acts of terrorism,” the council said in a statement.
Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and General Assembly President Csaba Korosi also condemned the attack.
“I urge the international community to strengthen its efforts to combat the scourge of terrorism and bring the perpetrators to justice,” Korosi said.
The secretary-general’s spokesman Farhan Haq said Guterres “calls on the Pakistani authorities to bring those responsible to justice” and “condemns all instances of terrorism and deliberate targeted attacks against civilians.”
The Islamic State of Khorasan province claimed responsibility for the attack.
The JuL-F is a member of the ruling Pakistan Democratic Movement coalition led by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
