United Nations (Uttam Hindu News): United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for rapid and unimpeded humanitarian aid delivery to Gaza and the release of hostages held by Hamas. “It is my duty as Secretary-General of the United Nations to make a strong humanitarian appeal at this time of crisis in the Middle East,” he said in a statement on Sunday. He said, “Those held hostage by Hamas must be immediately released without any conditions; “Israel must be granted prompt and unhindered access to humanitarian supplies to civilians in Gaza.”
UN chief called for humanitarian aid to reach Gaza: “These two objectives should not become a bargaining chip,” the UN chief said. The United Nations has stockpiles of food, water, non-food items, medical supplies and fuel available in Egypt, Jordan, the West Bank and Israel. According to the report of Xinhua News Agency, these goods can be sent within a few hours. Guterres said that to ensure deliveries, UN staff and partners on the ground must ensure these goods reach those in need safely and without hindrance in Gaza.
