In March, the IAEA’s quarterly report said that inspectors had found fragments at Iran’s underground Fordo nuclear site, further raising concerns about nuclear non-proliferation. Iran blamed ‘unexpected fluctuations’ for the discovery at the Fordo nuclear site. The Islamic Republic is producing uranium enriched up to 60 percent purity. This is the level that non-proliferation experts say Tehran does not need for civilian use. The US, the IAEA and experts said Iran had abandoned its military nuclear program in 2003. Iran has long maintained that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes.
