US, allies hold talks on naval task force to safeguard navigation in the Red Sea

The United States has said it may establish a naval task force to protect commercial vessels in the Red Sea, a day after Iran-backed Houthis launched missile attacks on three ships in Yemen.
Calling such measures a “natural” response to such incidents, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan on Monday said the US is actively discussing the formation of a naval task force to protect ships. Is being done although it has not been finalized yet.
Yemen’s Houthi rebels attacked three commercial ships with ballistic missiles on Sunday, the US military said, while a US warship shot down three drones in self-defense.
“We are talking with other countries about a maritime task force that would include ships from the United States as well as partner countries to ensure safe passage,” Sullivan told reporters. That similar task forces are used to protect commercial vessels elsewhere, including off the coast of Somalia.
