Washington. US and British forces on Thursday bombed more than a dozen sites used by Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen. These include areas for storing equipment, air defense systems and weapons storage. The officers provided this information. US President Joe Biden said the strikes were meant to show that the US and its allies ‘will not tolerate’ attacks by terrorist groups on the Red Sea.

Biden said that America and its allies have taken this step after careful consideration. “These strikes are in retaliation for attacks by Houthi rebels on international shipping in the Red Sea,” the US president said in a statement. “These attacks put American personnel, citizens, and our partners at risk, jeopardize trade, and threaten freedom of navigation.”

A statement issued by British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said that the Royal Air Force carried out targeted strikes against military installations used by Houthi rebels. ‘Associated Press’ journalists heard four explosions early Friday in Yemen’s capital Sanaa. Two Hodeida residents, Amin Ali Saleh and Hani Ahmed, said they heard five loud explosions in the city’s western port area. This port city is under the control of Houthi rebels.
