The Sri Lankan government has formally apologized to Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah over the ridiculous remarks made by former captain Arjuna Ranatunga. It is noteworthy that former Sri Lankan captain Arjun Ranatunga had given a strange statement and held Jay Shah responsible for the decline of Sri Lankan cricket.
Ranatunga had said that because of the relationship between SLC officials and Jay Shah, they (BCCI) are under the impression that they can crush and control SLC. Jay Shah is running Sri Lanka cricket. SLC is getting ruined due to pressure from Jai Shah. One man is ruining Sri Lankan cricket in India. He is powerful only because of his father. During the parliamentary session, both ministers Harin Fernando and Kanchana Wijesekera expressed regret regarding the incident. He clarified that the responsibility lies with Sri Lankan administrators rather than external entities.
Minister Wijesekera said that as a government we express our regret to Asian Cricket Council chief Jay Shah. We cannot blame the Asian Cricket Council Secretary or other countries for the shortcomings of our institutions. This is a misconception.
