US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said, “We will continue to closely monitor these actions, including the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.”
Miller was responding to a question during the State Department press conference on India summoning acting deputy chief of staff of the US Embassy in New Delhi, Gloria Barbena, as well as ‘freezing’ the bank accounts of the Congress party.
He said, “We are also aware of the allegations by the Congress Party that the tax authorities have frozen some of their bank accounts in such a way that it will become challenging to campaign effectively in the upcoming elections. “We encourage fair, transparent and timely legal processes for each of these issues.”

Indian Foreign Ministry officials had summoned the acting deputy head of the US Mission, Gloria Barbena, to the office in South Block. The meeting lasted more than 30 minutes.
