Some Western politicians like to classify countries around the world into two categories: “democratic” and “non-democratic”. But his definition of what democracy means is ridiculous. The true meaning of democracy should be that the basic interests of all the people will be protected in political governance. On the other hand, there is not just one way to realize democracy.

Some Western scholars believe that the concept of democracy comes from the West, while Eastern countries such as China and India have no democratic tradition. Therefore, Eastern countries have to follow the orders of Western countries to spread democracy. However, such thinking itself violates the spirit of democracy, because it deprives other countries of the world of the rights to explore other paths of civilizational development. In fact, Eastern civilizations have included the concepts of science and democracy since ancient times. The true meaning of democracy is to incorporate the fundamental interests of all people in national governance and allow the best people to perform social duties, so as to help the people achieve the best benefits. In fact, the system of selecting talents through examinations, invented in China in ancient times, has become a common method in all countries around the world. Which is equally valuable than the appointment of public officials through elections.

China’s democratic system gives priority to consultation, and all democratic parties have equal rights to participate in political power. However, the relationship between them is not the relationship between the ruling party and the opposition parties. Facts have proved that the political consultation system of multi-party cooperation can more fully represent the fundamental interests of the people. In addition, China implements the most rigorous management and evaluation system of officials. At the end of each year, all officials have to submit reports of their work to the public and management departments. And those officers are evaluated in terms of ethics, competence and performance etc. Officers who are incompetent will be replaced. And those who violate discipline will have to face strict legal and disciplinary punishment. Through such a system, official positions can always be filled by the most suitable people.

The currently rapidly developing AI technology can improve the modern democratic system. Because regular electoral rotation cannot ensure that the most suitable people are in public office. On the other hand, as long as politicians are elected, their abilities and actions cannot be monitored by the public. On the other hand, public rights can be further protected by the development of information technology, which provides them with powerful technical means to monitor public officials. The “Internet + government services” reform that China has promoted in recent years has not only greatly improved the administrative efficiency of the government, but also strengthened the modern democratic system.
