And the port is a lifeline for humanitarian aid and commercial supplies entering Yemen. Earlier on Saturday, UN special envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg urged all sides to exercise restraint amid a dangerous escalation in regional tensions.
On Friday, the US and Britain launched attacks on Houthi positions in the Yemeni capital Sanaa and other areas. The strikes were in response to the Houthis’ attacks in the Red Sea against what they called ‘Israeli-linked vessels’ in order to pressure Israel to halt its attacks in the Gaza Strip.
