Indian Air Force chief Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhary on Tuesday met top military officials of Sri Lanka and exchanged views on various issues of importance to bilateral relations. He also recalled the long-standing friendship between the two countries amid China’s growing influence on Sri Lanka. Air Chief Marshal Chowdhary arrived in Sri Lanka on Monday on a four-day official visit. He met Air Marshal Sudarshan Pathirana, Commander of the Sri Lankan Air Force, at the Air Headquarters here.
As part of India’s commitment to support capacity building of the Sri Lankan Armed Forces, Chief Air Marshal Chowdhury gifted AN-32 propellers to the neighboring country to enable the Sri Lankan Air Force to maintain its aircraft at a high level of operational readiness. The Indian High Commission in Colombo tweeted, “Air Chief Marshal VR Chowdhary presented the AN-32 propeller on behalf of the Government of India to the Sri Lankan Air Force Commander at Katunayake Air Base here.” This underlines India’s commitment to capacity development of the Sri Lankan Armed Forces.
The Indian Air Force chief is on a visit to the island nation at the invitation of his Sri Lankan counterpart Pathirana, News First channel reported. On arrival in Colombo, he was received by Air Commodore Suresh Fernando, Commander, Sri Lankan Air Force Base, Colombo, and given the Guard of Honor. He was awarded the ‘Squadron Colour’ of the Sri Lankan Air Force. Air Chief Marshal Chowdhury called on Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, Commander of the Sri Lankan Navy, at the Naval Headquarters in Colombo. On arrival at the Naval Headquarters in Colombo, the IAF chief was accorded a warm welcome as per naval tradition.
Air Chief Marshal Chowdhury called on Major General Senarath Yapa, Commandant, National Defense College of Sri Lanka and briefed the officers of the Sri Lankan Armed Forces at the college about the changes in the Indian Air Force. He also presented books worth about one crore Sri Lankan rupees to the college. During the discussions, the two sides exchanged views on various issues of importance to bilateral relations and recalled the long-standing friendly relations between the two countries. Air Chief Marshal Chowdhary had sought the blessings of Lord Buddha at the Gangaramya Temple here after reaching Colombo on Monday.
