Independence Day celebrated abroad as well, August 15 celebrated as ‘India Day’ in Minnesota

New York (Best Hindu News): On the occasion of India’s 77th Independence Day, Tim Walz, Governor of the US state of Minnesota, declared August 15, 2023 as “India Day” in the state. In a proclamation, he described India as the world’s largest democracy, home to nearly 20 per cent of the world’s population, with extraordinary diversity and rich cultural heritage.
“The contribution and legacy of Indian-Americans has played an important role in helping and continuing to build a better nation and state,” he said. About 55 thousand Indian-Americans live in Minnesota. The province officially opened its doors to Indian immigrants following the passage of the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965.
Walz said Indians in Minnesota serve as teachers, business owners, healthcare providers, technology entrepreneurs and artists across the state. The India Association of Minnesota organizes IndiaFest on the Minnesota State Capitol grounds to celebrate the culture, heritage and traditions of India through activities such as flag hoisting and parade.
Meanwhile, Indians across the US took out parades and rallies to celebrate Independence Day and also hoisted the national flag outside their homes in keeping with the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign. Indian Consul General in New York Randhir Jaiswal was accompanied by a large number of Indian community members when he unfurled the tricolor at Times Square on Tuesday morning.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken ‘greeted’ the people of India on this national occasion and said, ‘We stand with you in your shared commitment to address the most pressing global challenges to ensure peace and prosperity for your citizens. ,
