On June 21, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will celebrate Yoga Day at the UN Headquarters in New York and lead the event. The objective of International Yoga Day is to raise awareness around the world about the many benefits. Top officials, ambassadors will be involved
The yoga session will take place on June 21 from 8 am to 9 am (5:30 pm to 6:30 pm IST) in the spacious North Lawn at the UN Headquarters. This is the first time the event is being hosted abroad, earlier the PM had hosted the event in previously selected cities namely Delhi, Chandigarh, Lucknow, Dehradun, Ranchi and Mysore respectively. The historic yoga session in the US is expected to be attended by top UN officials, ambassadors, envoys, representatives of member states as well as prominent members of the global and diaspora community.

The serious and decisive initiative to officially recognize it all over the world took place last year on 27 September 2014. In his first speech at the UN on that day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented a resolution under which June 21 was said to be celebrated as International Yoga Day. He discussed the positive effects of yoga on the body and mind. After this, on 11 December 2014, the UN announced that International Yoga Day would be officially celebrated on 21 June every year.
What is the program in India
Its main event in India will be held in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. About 15000 people will be involved here. The Chief Guest of this program will be the Vice President. A pre-recorded video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be played in the programme. This event will be shown live in all the channels of Doordarshan. Indian Navy ships will be in 9 ports of the world on Yoga Day. Yoga will be demonstrated in these. It was named ‘Ocean Ring of Yoga’.
