Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that he feels embarrassed to seek more loans from friendly countries as it is not a permanent solution to the cash-strapped country’s economic challenges. Sharif was addressing the passing out ceremony of probationary officers of the Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS) in Lahore, the capital of Punjab province, on Saturday. During this, he expressed regret in his address that during the last 75 years, various governments of the country did not pay attention to economic issues.
While praising Saudi Arabia for the financial aid, Sharif said that he really felt embarrassed to ask for more loans, according to ‘Geo News’. He said that seeking foreign loans is not the right solution to Pakistan’s economic challenges as the loan will eventually have to be returned. He said that if the right policies were implemented at the right time, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) could have been achieved and foreign debts could have been avoided. Presently Pakistan is facing economic issues. Sharif was recently on a visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) during which Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed announced a further line of credit of one billion US dollars to Pakistan.
